Telepresence
The Telepresence
exhibition was shown in the Boston University Art Gallery at the
School of
Visual Arts on April 15-May 1, 2005 in Boston
MA as part of the MFA Thesis Exhibition 2005.
Format: Short
animation presented as a gallery installation approximately
2.5 minutes
Medium: Animated clips rendered as vector and
imported into Macromedia Flash
Process: Environments and characters constructed
using polygons in Alias Maya
Concept: A "tele-action" can
be defined as an action or event that is performed simultaneously
in two places at once. Usually the physical action takes place
in one location while the result
is remotely produced in another. Telepresence
introduces the invented terms tele-labor and
tele-leisure. Tele-labor
involves the
remote employment of a population in order to facilitate
goods
locally. Tele-leisure allows the labor force
to perform remote acts of leisure while still
being involved in the act of production.
